theres two sides to a coin
August 16, 2009
Its a saturday morning, early, and people are waking organising their shit for the days activities. Soon after 5 i rose to see an awesome sun rise, it was the most red i’ve seen on the horrizon ever. The sun is now up but low and is a pale, pastelly orange.
It was not the most likely of places i expected to find wifi. Perched amoungst some several hundred other campers on the side of Lake Powell which nestles on the Arizona-Utah border. Infact i’m probably some 100meters from the border now (on Arizona side).
So whats been happening the last couple days? mostly, alot of walking, driving and seeing the sights of some of the best NP’s in the world. It hasn’t been all plain sailing tho, i did expect the motions of life on the road to be a bit lonely and it struck me a few days ago. It was probably encouraged by lack of sleep but the countless small conversations were beginning to feel meaningless and the desire for a conversation lasting more than 5 minutes was becoming stronger (or maybe just the presence of another persons company). The overcrowded parks of Bryce and Zion failed to provide any respite. If anything the hundreds of people joking and laughing and having arguments with families/friends only served to make it harder. While tiresome, the beauty of these parks easily outweighed the meloncoly i had recently acquired. Their awesome size in itself is something to behold.
So, by the time i arrived at Zion NP i had begun to slow down, take my time, enjoy a bit of time out instead of taking off on another hike or going for a drive to take in some other site. I did however take a short hike down into Bryce to walk amongst the petroglyphs, a walk up to angels landing (fairly precarious – a lady actually died last week cause she slipped and fell) and a walk up the narrows (half rock-hoping, half walking through water into a narrowing canyon).
So all in all lifes still pretty good ay.
Offering to take pictures for people is still fun.
I found a $3.50 eski too – awesome.
Ok. peace out peeps
